Hajiyev says “Zangezur corridor” to carry 15M tons annually

Hikmet Hajiyev, foreign policy adviser to the President of Azerbaijan, stated in an interview with EU Today in Brussels that the “Zangezur corridor” will enable the transport of 15 million tons of cargo annually.

Hajiyev noted that the Azerbaijani section of the route is scheduled for completion by 2026 and expressed Baku’s readiness to see the European Union participate in the emerging transport and logistics hub, APA reports.

In August, the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the United States — Nikol Pashinyan, Ilham Aliyev, and Donald Trump — officially agreed to launch the Trump Route.

“This route will allow Azerbaijan to access Nakhchivan while fully respecting Armenia’s sovereignty. Armenia is also forming a unique partnership with the U.S. to develop this corridor. The term may be extended up to 99 years and renewed for another 99. We expect major infrastructure developments. American companies are eager to enter these countries and invest significantly, bringing economic benefits to all three nations,” Trump said.

On September 11, Prime Minister Pashinyan stated that Armenia did not lease land to the U.S. for 99 years but rather granted construction rights.
