Reconstruction of the unfinished part of the Cascade Complex in Yerevan has officially begun, following the signing of an implementation agreement between Yerevan Municipality and GTB Development LLC.
The project, named “Cascade Cultural Hub,” will include a new 1,000-seat concert hall and a contemporary art museum with new exhibition spaces. In total, the cultural and recreational center will span around 30,000 square meters.
In his remarks, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan stated: “About a year ago, we launched the process to reconstruct the incomplete section of the Cascade Complex. At that time, many sincerely doubted it would ever be completed. Today, we’re implementing a program that has been stalled for decades. The launch of the Cascade process demonstrates that the state, local community, and private sector can function as one for long-term results.”
“Almost a year later, we’re at a point where we can officially announce the start of the Cascade Cultural Hub’s implementation. I thank our government partners, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, our colleagues at GTB Holdings, and the architectural community for their discussions and expert input.”
He offered special thanks to the families of Jim Torosyan and Sargis Gurzadyan for their support, and to Mr. Aslan Mkhitaryan for his consultation and constructive engagement. Avinyan also highlighted Mr. Wilmot, the architect leading the project, for his respect toward the city’s history, Jim Torosyan’s original vision, and Yerevan’s unique character.
“This project will add new content to urban life,” Avinyan concluded, “with cultural events, public open spaces, and a significantly improved environment.”
The Government of Armenia has approved the investment initiative.
