Labor Minister denies pension age hike rumors

Armenia’s Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Arsen Torosyan, denied recent media reports suggesting that the government plans to raise the retirement age. Writing on his Facebook page, he stated that “no such issue is under discussion.”

“A freshly minted ‘expert’ is once again spreading lies on Livenews, claiming that we are preparing to raise the retirement age. He delivers this nonsense with such a straight face and with such an overdose of made-up arguments that one begins to admire his acting skills,” Torosyan wrote.

He said that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had also addressed the matter at a recent Cabinet session, clearly stating that the issue is not being considered.

“I won’t hesitate to repeat it. This is yet another shameless lie in broad daylight,” he concluded.

In Armenia, pensions are currently granted to individuals upon reaching the age of 63.
