17 Polish fans detained after riots in Yerevan

After the UEFA Europa Conference League group stage match on December 11 in Yerevan, where Poland’s Legia Warsaw lost 2–1 to Armenia’s Noah, a group of Polish fans initiated riots in the city, particularly near the Vernissage market area.

According to Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, at 00:27 a.m. on December 12, police received a call reporting that Polish supporters were vandalizing property near Vernissage, as reported by “Pastinfo.”

Police units from the Central Division and the Police Guard detained 17 Polish nationals on suspicion of gross public disorder and hooliganism. The individuals were transported to a police station.

The Ministry stated that relevant documentation has been forwarded to the investigative department.

However, the Investigative Committee informed Aysor.am that no criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding the incident at Vernissage.

In the fifth round of the Conference League, Armenia’s defending champion and cup winner Noah secured a comeback 2–1 home victory over Legia, Poland’s vice-champion, effectively ensuring a place in the playoffs.
