The Armenian Police are proposing legislative amendments that would enable officers to test whether a driver is under the influence of drugs. The draft has been submitted for public discussion, according to Armenpress.
The proposal suggests allowing the use of technical means to check for drug-induced impairment, with administrative liability applied if such cases are confirmed.
Under current law, police can only use technical devices to test for alcohol levels in exhaled breath to determine sobriety.
If a driver is suspected of being under the influence of drugs, the current procedure requires medical testing of blood or urine by healthcare institutions.
The proposed legal changes aim to enhance efforts to prevent drug-impaired driving more effectively.
