Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated in an interview with Azerbaijani television that what is known as international law no longer exists — what matters now is power.
“Let everyone forget about that. What exists is power, cooperation, alliances, and mutual support,” he said, according to APA.
According to Aliyev, in today’s environment, each country must prioritize strengthening its military capacity and national security.
He recalled that during the summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Gabala, he proposed joint military exercises among member countries.
“I believe that is necessary as well. We conduct bilateral drills with member states, mostly with Turkey, but also with others. However, holding joint exercises could have symbolic value and, at the same time, practical importance,” Aliyev added.
On August 8, a trilateral meeting was held at the White House between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, resulting in a joint declaration summarizing the outcomes of the Washington meeting. In the presence of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the U.S., Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov pre-signed a “Treaty on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
