Protests in Iran are ongoing, and Tehran’s central bazaar is partially closed, according to Movses Keshishian, editor-in-chief of the Armenian-language Arax newspaper in Tehran, reports Factor.am .
“There is no sign of easing at the moment, and unless the government takes serious action, this may continue or even escalate,” Keshishian said.
He noted that despite government steps and promises, there have been no visible results so far.
The U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reports that at least 34 protesters and 4 law enforcement officers have died in the unrest, and about 2,200 protesters have been detained.
The protests began on December 28, when business owners took to the streets of Tehran to voice frustration over the steep devaluation of the Iranian rial.
