Health insurance registry to be handled by new foundation

The Armenian government has approved a decision to establish the procedures for collecting, maintaining, and transferring data within the Universal Health Insurance Registry, as part of the launch of the national health insurance system, reports Radar Armenia.

The registry will operate within the electronic healthcare system, and will be interoperable with the digital platforms of government and local self-government bodies via the state's interoperability infrastructure.

According to the decision, the registry will be managed by the Universal Health Insurance Foundation. Citizens with insurance will be able to check their insurance status via the electronic healthcare system. Anonymized data in the registry will be considered property of the Republic of Armenia.

The law on universal health insurance came into effect on January 1, 2026, and is being implemented in phases. In the first stage, it applies to citizens with a monthly salary exceeding 200,000 AMD. For these individuals, a 129,600 AMD insurance package has been set, covering preventive care, early detection and screening services, hospital treatment, medication coverage, and emergency services.
