Georgia to charge fee for Azerbaijani fuel transit

Karen Ayriyan, director of Mega Trade, announced that Georgia has decided to impose a fee for the second transit of gasoline from Azerbaijan to Armenia.

He stated that the upcoming imports will include not only Premium but also Regular type gasoline, delivered via Georgia’s territory, for which a transit fee will now be applied, according to Auroranews.am.

Ayriyan noted that the implementation of this transit fee is not expected to significantly impact final fuel prices. He added that fluctuations in currency exchange rates and global oil product prices have a far greater influence on fuel pricing.

Mega Trade and Shisha World are the primary importers of Azerbaijani gasoline in the Armenian market. According to sources, Georgia did not charge a transit fee for the first shipment of Azerbaijani fuel.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan commented on the import of Azerbaijani gasoline, saying: “As far as I understand, this fuel is very cost-effective for Armenian citizens. I saw calls for a boycott, but also learned there are lines for this gasoline.”

When asked why Azerbaijan supplies cheap gasoline to Armenia, Mirzoyan replied: “Because peace is being established, cooperation must be formed, and Azerbaijani and Turkish cargo should pass through our territory, just as we should pass through theirs.”

On December 19, a train carrying 22 wagons of gasoline from Azerbaijan’s Socar company entered Armenia.
