Fuel prices in Armenia may drop by up to 80 drams

Armenia’s Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan announced on Facebook that prices for gasoline and diesel are expected to decrease by up to 80 drams per liter, following a new batch of Azerbaijani fuel imports.

“In 2025, 6,580 tons of grain entered Armenia by rail via Azerbaijan — 1,000 tons from Kazakhstan and 5,580 tons from Russia — along with 1,210 tons of Azerbaijani gasoline.

As of January 8, 2026, 8,485 tons of Russian grain have entered Armenia through Azerbaijan by rail, with another 4,103 tons en route. Additionally, 7,600 tons of Azerbaijani oil products are on the way, including 6,100 tons of gasoline and 1,500 tons of diesel,” he wrote.

“As I noted earlier, we expect a price reduction of up to 80 drams per liter of gasoline and diesel compared to last month. I’m pleased to report that, due to these developments, other fuel companies are also working toward lowering their prices,” the minister added.

Previously, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan commented on the issue of Azerbaijani fuel imports, saying: “As far as I understand, fuel procurement is very cost-effective for Armenian citizens. I’ve seen calls for a boycott, but also noticed queues for this gasoline.”

When asked why Azerbaijan is supplying Armenia with cheap fuel, Mirzoyan responded: “Because peace has been established, cooperation must be developed, and Azerbaijani and Turkish cargo should pass through our territory, just as we should pass through theirs.”

On December 19, a train carrying 22 wagons of gasoline from Azerbaijan’s Socar company arrived in Armenia.
