Vicken Euljeckjian, who is being held in a Baku prison and is reportedly facing serious health issues, has sent a handwritten letter to his wife, Linda Euljeckjian. The letter’s delivery has been confirmed by the Society for Orphaned Armenian Relief (SOAR) based in Buenos Aires, according to Panorama.am .
The letter was delivered through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
“Today, the family of Mr. Vicken Euljeckjian, an Armenian-Lebanese civilian detained in Azerbaijan, received a personal handwritten letter addressed to his wife, Mrs. Linda Euljeckjian. This moment marks a deeply emotional and meaningful event for the family after a long period marked by silence, uncertainty, and psychological hardship. Any communication from Mr. Euljeckjian is vital, serving not only as proof of life but also as a deeply human and emotional link between husband and wife under extraordinarily difficult circumstances,” the organization stated.
SOAR expressed its sincere gratitude to the ICRC for facilitating the letter’s transfer, highlighting the organization's role within its humanitarian mandate.
“While the letter’s arrival provides a degree of comfort, serious humanitarian concerns regarding Mr. Euljeckjian’s prolonged detention persist,” SOAR noted.
The organization reaffirmed the importance of continuous international monitoring, transparency, and humanitarian access to ensure that his physical and psychological well-being is protected and that he is treated in accordance with international humanitarian and human rights standards.
SOAR also reiterated its unwavering solidarity with the Euljeckjian family and its commitment to defending the dignity and fundamental rights of all Armenian detainees. It called on the international community and relevant institutions to remain vigilant and engaged, stressing that sustained attention is essential to prevent isolation and uphold basic human rights.
Euljeckjian, 46, is a dual citizen of Armenia and Lebanon. He was abducted by Azerbaijani forces in Artsakh on November 10, 2020, one day after the ceasefire between Armenia and Azerbaijan was declared. In June 2021, Baku’s military court sentenced him to 20 years in prison on charges of “mercenary activity,” “terrorism,” and “illegal border crossing.” Recent reports have indicated a decline in his health condition.
