Fidan says Turkey, U.S. share goals on South Caucasus

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has stated that Turkey’s regional goals coincide with those of the United States, “which is imposing peace on Armenia,” according to a report by APA.

According to the minister, similar alignment is observed on matters concerning Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Syria, and other regions, but the convergence is particularly strong in issues related to the South Caucasus.

On August 8, a trilateral meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev was held at the White House. A joint declaration was signed following the meeting in Washington.

In Washington, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in the presence of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the U.S., initialed the “Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
