Azerbaijan returns 4 Armenian captives

Azerbaijan has returned four Armenian captives. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced the transfer on his Facebook page.

“Gevorg Sujyan, Davit Davtyan, Vicken Euljeckjian, and Vagif Khachatryan were just handed over at the Hakari bridge by representatives of the relevant authorities of the Republic of Azerbaijan to their Armenian counterparts. They are now on the territory of the Republic of Armenia. Additional information will be provided later,” his post stated.

Later, Pashinyan added that Sujyan, Davtyan, and Euljeckjian were found to have no health issues upon preliminary examination. Khachatryan’s condition is currently assessed as satisfactory. All four are being transported to Yerevan.

A few days ago, Lebanese-Armenian Vicken Euljeckjian, whose health had significantly deteriorated in captivity, had written a letter to his wife asking her to postpone their son’s wedding.

On December 22, Vagif Khachatryan, a 70-year-old resident of Artsakh sentenced to 15 years in prison in Azerbaijan, was hospitalized after a sharp decline in his health.

In November 2020, after the end of hostilities in Artsakh, it was reported that Gevorg Sujyan, founder of the New Armenia Homeland-Diaspora charitable NGO, and his friend Davit Davtyan were captured on the Berdzor–Shushi road. Sujyan had been delivering aid to Artsakh during the war.
