The Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of Armenia’s National Assembly has issued a positive recommendation for the ratification of the readmission agreement between Armenia and Georgia, which concerns the return of individuals residing without legal status in either country.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Ghazaryan presented the agreement during the committee session, explaining that it applies to citizens of both countries who are present in the other country’s territory without legal grounds.
“The agreement covers procedures for information exchange between the two states’ competent authorities regarding such individuals. In cases of unclear citizenship, it defines which documents can be used to establish a person’s nationality,” said Ghazaryan.
He emphasized that the key goal is to prevent and control irregular migration and to strengthen cooperation in migration policy between the neighboring states.
The ratification of the agreement between the governments of Armenia and Georgia will next be considered at a full session of the National Assembly.
