Kyrgyzstan considers declaring Solovyov persona non grata

Kyrgyzstan is considering declaring prominent Russian journalist Vladimir Solovyov a persona non grata and banning his entry into the country. The announcement came from Askat Alagozov, press secretary to the President of Kyrgyzstan, according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

Alagozov noted that the proposal was raised by a member of the Kyrgyz parliament, following controversial remarks by Solovyov.

In one of his recent broadcasts on Russian state television, Solovyov referred to Central Asia as a “Russian region” and suggested that a special military operation might be needed there if deemed necessary.

“These kinds of statements should be seen as yet another hollow and unserious comment made during hours-long broadcasts by a Russian journalist,” Alagozov said.

Earlier, Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin was summoned to Armenia’s Foreign Ministry over Solovyov’s recent comments.

Solovyov had declared that international law should be disregarded and that a “special military operation” should be carried out in both Armenia and Central Asia. “What’s happening in Armenia is much more painful for us than what’s happening in Venezuela. Losing Armenia is a major problem,” he said.
