Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II expressed joy at the return of four Armenians previously held in Baku on fabricated charges and emphasized that the Church continues to pray for the safe and swift repatriation of all captives.
“It was a source of comfort and spiritual joy for us to learn about the return of four Armenians who had been illegally detained in Baku on trumped-up charges,” stated the Catholicos in his message.
“We pray that, with God’s blessing and the support of our entire nation, they may restore a peaceful and normal life with their families and loved ones.
Our prayer is that all captives may soon and safely return to the Homeland.
May God keep the whole world, our homeland, and our people under the grace of peace,” his message concluded.
On January 14, Azerbaijan returned Davit Davtyan, Gevorg Sujyan, Vicken Euljeckjian, and Vagif Khachatryan to Armenia. On the same day, Armenia transferred Syrian nationals—convicted of terrorism and sentenced to life in prison in 2020 in Artsakh—to Syria via Turkey, so they may serve the rest of their sentences in their home country, according to the Ministry of Justice.
