Two Armenians killed during Iran protests

Diaspora Commissioner Zareh Sinanyan announced that two Armenians have been confirmed dead as a result of the recent mass protests and unrest in Iran.

“Two Armenians have died during the mass protests and riots in Iran,” Sinanyan stated, according to Panorama.am .

He noted that the death of one individual had already been confirmed earlier, while the second fatality is now also being verified.

“The first case was confirmed, and it seems the second one is confirmed as well. There are reports of higher numbers, but we lack concrete information,” he added.

Sinanyan explained that currently, Armenia’s embassy in Iran and the local Armenian community are not in full communication, and that information is being received only from travelers arriving from Iran.

He said that efforts are underway through all available channels to obtain accurate data and explore potential support measures.

According to a report by Reuters, nearly 2,000 people have died during the protests in Iran, citing an Iranian official. On January 11, Iranian security forces announced the arrest of the main organizers, without specifying the number of detainees. National Police Chief Ahmad-Reza Radan said that all legal procedures will follow, and those responsible will be punished.
