Bishop Gevorg Saroyan, who was dismissed from his position as the head of the Diocese of Masis, has filed a lawsuit against the Armenian Apostolic Church.
According to Datalex, he is requesting the court to invalidate the January 10, 2026, patriarchal decree No. 02 issued by Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, which relieved him of his duties. He seeks reinstatement as diocesan leader as a result. The lawsuit was filed with the Armavir Court on January 15 and has been assigned to Judge Edgar Hovhannisyan, reports Panorama.am .
Bishop Saroyan is among ten bishops who reportedly supported Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s campaign critical of the Church.
According to the patriarchal decree, Bishop Gevorg Saroyan was dismissed for alleged abuse of authority, failure to fulfill duties, and exerting pressure on clergy. Archimandrite Ruben Zargaryan has been appointed as interim leader of the Masis Diocese.
