U.S. envoy wraps up 3-year term, lauded for boosting ties

U.S. Ambassador Kristina Kvien has been awarded Armenia’s Order of Friendship as she concludes her diplomatic mission, in recognition of her contributions to strengthening Armenian-American relations.

President Vahagn Khachaturyan hosted Kvien to express appreciation for her efforts, emphasizing her role in deepening bilateral ties during a pivotal time. “You stood by us during one of the most difficult periods for our country,” Khachaturyan said. “The results of your work are clearly visible, especially over the past two years.”

The president also highlighted the signing of the Strategic Partnership Charter in January 2023 and the subsequent TRIPP initiative, calling them historic milestones in U.S.-Armenia relations.

In remarks shared by the U.S. Embassy, Kvien reflected on key accomplishments during her three-year tenure, including the launch of new partnerships in technology, energy, and industry, as well as joint progress made during the August 8 Washington Peace Summit.

“Armenia now has a real opportunity to advance the commitments made on August 8 and secure its sovereignty and territorial integrity on solid ground,” Kvien said.

She concluded by affirming her continued support: “Though my mission ends, I will remain a friend of Armenia.”
