Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan delivered a speech at the panel discussion titled “Defining Eurasia’s Economic Identity” held in Davos, Panorama.am reports.
“In President Aliyev’s words, we have demonstrated political will and courage in the name of peace,” Khachaturyan said. “We are now experiencing a situation that we have not seen in over 30 years. Just one or two years ago, it was unimaginable that we could reach this point. Today, cargo from Azerbaijan is passing through Georgia to Armenia, and I am confident that one day, it will move directly through our own territory. This would enable direct transportation links between Armenia and Azerbaijan, helping overcome the challenges of the 1990s.
Most importantly, we are looking forward. If we focus on the past and seek out the reasons behind what happened, we will miss new opportunities. We value and understand this. As President Aliyev mentioned, we must learn to live in peace, and I can assure you that this is also a new and unfamiliar reality for us.
Currently, Azerbaijani cargo is transiting via Georgia, but in the future, direct supply routes between our countries are possible. The agreements reached are based on the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, and mutual respect. Opening the borders will be a logical step toward developing relations. Such cooperation will make the South Caucasus a more politically and economically stable and beneficial region between Europe and Asia. I would like to thank the Azerbaijani leadership, particularly President Ilham Aliyev, as well as Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, for their commitment to peace,” said the Armenian President.
Khachaturyan took part in the panel discussion alongside Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, and Ebru Özdemir, a representative of Turkey’s Limak Group, as part of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The President’s press office noted that his remarks focused on the crucial role of peace and stability in fostering economic development in the South Caucasus, as well as ensuring smooth East-West connectivity and economic cooperation. He stressed that a peaceful and stable South Caucasus could become a vital hub between Europe and Asia, creating multifaceted opportunities for economic growth.
