Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced during the “Defining Eurasia’s Economic Identity” panel in Davos that a new transport corridor will be established as part of the TRIPP (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity) initiative.
“As part of the TRIPP initiative, we will create a new transport corridor, in addition to the existing routes that run from Asia, across the Caspian Sea, through Azerbaijan, Armenia, Nakhchivan, which is part of Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Georgia. The more routes we have, the better it is for consumers, suppliers, and transit countries. That’s why we, as a state, always focus on the regional agenda,” Aliyev stated, as reported by APA.
He also said that Azerbaijan has received an official request from the Armenian side regarding transit access from Armenia to Russia.
“We have in fact unilaterally opened the corridors. It’s true that transport is currently happening via Georgia, but one day the route will pass through Armenia. The day will also come when Armenian cargo will transit directly through Azerbaijan, and that day is not far off,” Aliyev emphasized.
On December 19, a train carrying 22 wagons of gasoline from Azerbaijan’s SOCAR company entered Armenia, followed by two additional shipments. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan commented on the issue, noting: “As I understand it, buying this gasoline is quite advantageous for Armenian citizens. I saw boycott calls, but I also learned there were queues for that gasoline.”
Asked why Azerbaijan is supplying Armenia with cheap gasoline, Mirzoyan responded: “Because peace is established and cooperation should be formed. Azerbaijani and Turkish goods should also pass through our territory, and we should transit through theirs.”
