Vagif Khachatryan, who was recently repatriated from Azerbaijani captivity, has undergone surgery at the Nork-Marash Medical Center. The news was shared on Facebook by Armenia’s Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan.
“The surgery went smoothly and without complications. He has been moved to the intensive care unit. His condition is stable and corresponds to the scope of the procedure. I wish him a speedy recovery,” the statement reads.
On January 14, Azerbaijan handed over Davit Davtyan, Gevorg Sujyan, Vicken Euljeckjian, and Vagif Khachatryan to Armenia. Khachatryan was captured in July 2023 near the Hakari Bridge while traveling from Artsakh to Armenia for medical treatment under the escort of the International Committee of the Red Cross. In late December 2025, it was reported that his health had deteriorated in a Baku prison, prompting his transfer to a hospital.
