Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan met with a delegation from University College London (UCL), visiting Armenia within the framework of the Academic City initiative.
The delegation was led by Norbert Pachler, Deputy Dean of UCL’s Institute of Education (IOE), responsible for quality assurance, educational program design, and pedagogical innovation.
The discussion focused on enhancing the competitiveness of pedagogical education and updating academic content in line with broader reforms in Armenia’s higher education system. Pachler emphasized the importance of quality student life, modern curricula, teacher training, and the creation of excellence centers in education.
Minister Andreasyan underlined the government’s commitment to advancing institutional reforms in higher education, particularly improving the quality of teacher education, which she said directly impacts all levels of the education system and public life.
She stressed the need to attract and retain skilled educators, promote youth involvement, and expand research opportunities in pedagogy. She also emphasized the importance of international collaboration, including within the Bologna Process, Erasmus+ programs, and with diaspora experts.
Pachler noted that the UCL team met with representatives from universities, schools, and public and private sector stakeholders across Yerevan and the regions. Advisory work will continue throughout the year, with a roadmap for next steps in development.
Armenia’s Academic City is slated for completion by 2030, aiming to place four Armenian universities in the top 500 international rankings.
