Former Georgian Prime Minister and opposition leader of the “For Georgia” party Giorgi Gakharia congratulated Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for recent progress toward peace. He also welcomed the growing U.S. role in the South Caucasus. His remarks were posted on X.
Gakharia warned that Georgia “is losing its strategic importance and becoming increasingly isolated.”
“As countries advance their national interests in the new world order, Georgia is losing its strategic role and falling into isolation due to deliberate actions and the incompetence of the Georgian Dream government,” he wrote.
“Instead of restoring relations with the United States and making Georgia a central part of the U.S. agenda in the South Caucasus, the current regime continues attacks and disinformation against the U.S., aligning with hostile forces and jeopardizing not only Georgia’s security interests but also long-term regional peace and U.S. national security,” he added.
Meanwhile, former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili warned that President Ilham Aliyev’s comments about a future Armenia-Azerbaijan transit route could undermine Georgia’s past geopolitical achievements.
Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has stated that the alternative transit corridor poses no threat to Georgia’s transit capabilities.
