Dalma Gardens to become protected forest zone

During a government meeting, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan raised the issue of Dalma Gardens, reiterating that since 2018, the Yerevan Municipality has been tasked with preserving the area as a non-developable urban forest.

Mayor Tigran Avinyan confirmed that a 250-hectare Dalma forest park will be established, 1lurer.am reports.

“In fact, the municipality has commissioned a techno-economic study for the Dalma Gardens, covering a 250-hectare area.

These lands are intended to remain part of the green fund, and we aim to implement a project turning it into the Dalma Forest Park, a densely forested green space that will significantly expand Yerevan’s green area,” Avinyan explained.

During the discussion, the Prime Minister also inquired about the Cascade reconstruction project and the progress of construction.

Avinyan clarified that contractual procedures are underway with the selected company:

“Things are moving in a normal course. We’re currently negotiating specific contract clauses with the winning company. Once finalized, we’ll move to a more active phase.

We’re now in the demolition phase. Physical demolition work has already been underway since last year,” he said.

Pashinyan also asked about the Isakov–Arshakunyats project, to which Avinyan responded that construction will begin in the spring.

“The final winning bidder must be selected, and after that, work will start,” he added.

To build a multifunctional center, the Yerevan Municipality will expropriate and designate as a public interest the Paskievich Hill and adjacent areas in Noragyugh, Kentron district. The corresponding decision was adopted during the cabinet session.
