Legal proceedings launched against ruling party MP

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan confirmed that legal proceedings have been initiated against Civil Contract faction MP Hayk Sargsyan, following internal disciplinary actions taken by the party. Speaking during a press briefing after a cabinet meeting, Pashinyan responded to recent public criticisms voiced by Sargsyan and clarified the party’s stance.

According to Pashinyan, Sargsyan had received a stern warning from the party months ago during a Civil Contract board meeting, which was followed by legal steps.

“I don’t believe making the content of those discussions public serves Mr. Sargsyan’s interests. During a Civil Contract board session several months ago, Mr. Sargsyan was issued a severe warning based on specific reasons, and legal proceedings have since followed. This situation highlights one thing: Civil Contract will not tolerate irregular or corruption-prone actions by its members. This should be clear to everyone,” Pashinyan stated, as reported by Sputnik Armenia.

Previously, Civil Contract’s board rejected Hayk Sargsyan’s inclusion in the party’s electoral list through two separate decisions. The first decision excluded him from the preliminary list, and the second denied his appeal.

According to preliminary information, parliamentary elections are expected to be held on June 7, 2026.
