On February 2, Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan held a meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia, Khalil Shirgholami. The parliament leader congratulated him on his appointment.
The two discussed the development of interparliamentary relations and regional issues of mutual interest.
Simonyan expressed hope that Shirgholami’s tenure would contribute to the further strengthening and development of ties between Armenia and Iran.
Earlier, at a press conference, Ambassador Shirgholami had sharply criticized ongoing protests outside the Iranian Embassy in Yerevan, warning that Tehran views Armenia as increasingly becoming a center for hostile activities against Iran.
