Court modifies measures for Gyumri officials

On February 2, a session was held at the Anti-Corruption Court under Judge Sargis Dadoyan in the ongoing criminal case involving Spartak Ghukasyan, the son of Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan, as well as Karapet Ghukasyan, Avetis Arakelyan, and Artem Mkrtchyan, head of the Gyumri Communal Service, reports Pastinfo.

The court upheld the current measure against Avetis Arakelyan, acting head of the Gyumri municipality, maintaining his travel ban. The pre-trial detention of his assistant Karapet Ghukasyan was replaced with three months of house arrest. Meanwhile, the house arrest imposed on Artem Mkrtchyan was changed to administrative supervision.

Spartak Ghukasyan refused to attend the hearing. The court ordered that he be brought in by force.

The criminal case concerns the events of October 20, 2025, during protests in and around the Gyumri municipality building in support of Vardan Ghukasyan. Law enforcement authorities classified the events as mass disorder.

Spartak Ghukasyan is being prosecuted under multiple sections of Armenia’s Criminal Code, including organizing and leading, as part of a group, actions that involved damaging or destroying an official’s property and using violence against officials with the intent to interfere with their lawful duties.
