Prosecutor’s Office: Hayk Sargsyan not facing charges

Member of Parliament from the Civil Contract faction, Hayk Sargsyan, is not a suspect in any criminal proceedings, according to a statement from Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s Office, reported by Factor.am .

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had earlier stated at a post-cabinet briefing that Sargsyan had received a strict warning, which was followed by legal processes.

“I don’t believe making the content of those discussions public serves Mr. Sargsyan’s interests. This is solely about one thing: that Civil Contract will not tolerate improper or potentially corrupt behavior by its members,” said Pashinyan.

Despite the prime minister's comments, he did not clarify what specific legal developments or questionable deals were involved.

In recent weeks, tensions have grown between Hayk Sargsyan and the Civil Contract faction. Initially, the party's board rejected Sargsyan’s candidacy for the upcoming elections, which he unsuccessfully contested. Later, a public dispute erupted between Sargsyan and Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan, prompting Sargsyan to declare: “Simonyan is not my friend.”
