Members of the Swiss National Council, Erich von Tobel and Stefan Müller-Altermatt, along with John Eibner, head of the Christian Solidarity International (CSI) human rights organization, visited the Permanent Representation of Artsakh in Armenia. They were accompanied by CSI representatives Joel Veldkamp and Peter Fuchs.
The meeting included acting Artsakh President and National Assembly Speaker Ashot Danielyan, Deputy Speaker Gagik Bagunts, parliamentary faction leaders, the Human Rights Defender of Artsakh, and members of the Committee for the Protection of the Rights of the People of Artsakh, according to the Artsakh Information Headquarters.
At the start of the meeting, Ashot Danielyan awarded Erich von Tobel the “Gratitude” Medal of the Republic of Artsakh, and presented certificates of appreciation to Stefan Müller-Altermatt and John Eibner.
Danielyan then outlined key political directions aimed at restoring the rights of the people of Artsakh, and spoke about the current social and psychological situation of displaced Artsakh Armenians.
The Swiss MPs presented updates on the implementation of a 2025 resolution adopted by both houses of the Swiss Parliament titled “Peace Forum for Nagorno-Karabakh: Ensuring the Possibility of Return for Armenians”, and highlighted their continued efforts in this area.
Тhe sides discussed deepening cooperation and the prospects of future joint initiatives.
Erich von Tobel, founder of the Swiss Parliament’s peace initiative for Nagorno-Karabakh, stated that from the perspective of the Swiss government, the Karabakh issue remains unresolved.
