Former Artsakh leaders get life terms in Baku

On February 5, the Baku Military Court sentenced former President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (Artsakh) Arayik Harutyunyan to life imprisonment, APA reports.

The prosecution had earlier requested the maximum penalty, claiming Harutyunyan’s actions fell under “the gravest charges.”

Life sentences were also issued to:

  • Levon Mnatsakanyan, former commander of the Artsakh Defense Army
  • Davit Manukyan, former first deputy commander of the Defense Army
  • Davit Babayan, former Foreign Minister of the Republic of Artsakh
  • Davit Ishkhanyan, former Speaker of the National Assembly of Artsakh

The trial began on January 17, 2025. According to reports, the judges withdrew to the deliberation room on December 26 to prepare the verdict.
