U.S. Vice President JD Vance will lead President Donald Trump’s delegation to the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan on February 6, after which he will visit Armenia and Azerbaijan to support the peace agreement mediated by the White House, according to the Associated Press.
He will be accompanied by his wife, Usha Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and U.S. Ambassador to Italy Tilman Fertitta.
“The peace agreement strengthens America’s presence in the region as Russian influence wanes. Former Soviet republics Armenia and Azerbaijan have agreed to open key transport routes and expand cooperation with the U.S. in energy, technology, and economic sectors,” the article notes.
The agreement includes the creation of a major transit corridor called the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), which will connect Azerbaijan with its Nakhichevan exclave via a 32-kilometer-wide segment through Armenian territory.
Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio signed a joint document in Washington under the TRIPP framework, outlining bilateral cooperation. The published framework states that it does not and is not intended to create legal obligations for either country.
