Ruben Vardanyan, former State Minister of Artsakh, philanthropist, and businessman currently held in detention in Baku, had a phone conversation with his wife, Veronika Zonabend. A quote from their conversation was shared on his official Facebook page, referencing Albert Camus’ 1951 essay The Rebel.
“The future may be unpredictable, and rebirth may seem impossible. But we simply refuse to accept that. We must spare nothing for rebirth. There is no other option, either we are reborn, or we perish,” he quoted.
Ruben Vardanyan’s trial in Baku is proceeding separately. Other Artsakh leaders have received life sentences, except former presidents Arkadi Ghukasyan and Bako Sahakyan, who were sentenced to 20 years in prison.
