Armenia reaffirms support for UNFPA’s mission

As a newly elected member of the Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), Armenia took part in the first regular session of the Board, according to the country’s Permanent Mission to the UN.

Paruyr Hovhannisyan, Armenia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, made official statements addressing the UN’s UN80 initiative and various meetings, including those with the UNDP Administrator and the UNFPA Executive Director.

Armenia emphasized that UN reforms must be member state–driven, practical, and data-based, enhancing impact and efficiency while providing reliable support to program countries. These reforms should produce tangible, on-the-ground results aligned with national priorities.

The ambassador’s remarks highlighted UNDP’s critical role in delivering flexible and comprehensive development solutions, especially for countries considered to be in special situations or in the middle-income category.

Hovhannisyan also reaffirmed Armenia’s strong support for UNFPA’s work, particularly in providing assistance in both humanitarian and development contexts.

He underscored the UNFPA’s role in empowering women and youth, combating gender-based violence, promoting inclusivity for persons with disabilities, and supporting vulnerable groups.

Armenia reiterated its commitment to active engagement in the Executive Board’s work in the coming years, contributing to constructive and goal-oriented discussions.
