Etchmiadzin pledges global advocacy for prisoners’ release

The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin has issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the “clearly fabricated verdicts” handed down against the former leadership of Artsakh.

“Holy Etchmiadzin reaffirms its commitment to continue its dedicated efforts through its global structures, engaging with international and inter-church platforms to advocate for the release and return of Armenian captives,” the statement reads.

The Church also expressed solidarity with the detained public figures from Artsakh, prisoners of war, and their families.

Former Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan was sentenced to life imprisonment, along with ex-Defense Army Commander Levon Mnatsakanyan, his former deputy Davit Manukyan, former Foreign Minister Davit Babayan, and Parliament Speaker Davit Ishkhanyan. Former presidents Arkadi Ghukasyan and Bako Sahakyan received 20-year prison terms, while Madat Babayan and Melikset Pashayan were sentenced to 19 years.
