Simonyan, Matvienko discuss Armenian drivers’ issues

Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan and Russian Federation Council Chair Valentina Matvienko addressed interparliamentary relations, migration issues, and regional developments during their meeting in Moscow, according to the Armenian parliament's press office.

A key topic was recent changes to Russian legislation affecting foreign nationals, particularly their impact on Armenian truck drivers transporting goods to Russia. The sides discussed current challenges and steps being taken to resolve them.

They also explored a broad agenda of bilateral matters in politics, economics, education, and culture, placing special emphasis on enhancing interparliamentary cooperation. Both parties highlighted the crucial role of parliamentary ties in strengthening bilateral relations.

Additionally, the ongoing peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan and other regionally significant topics were on the agenda. At the conclusion of the meeting, Simonyan and Matvienko answered questions from journalists.

During his meeting in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan said Armenia is interested in maintaining and developing relations with Russia. He noted that the Armenian public sometimes reacts sharply to certain statements from Moscow because Russia holds significance for Armenia. According to Simonyan, such remarks concern the public, and he has discussed the matter with the Russian ambassador as well.
