Following a meeting with Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan, Russian Federation Council Chair Valentina Matvienko stated at a press conference that cooperation between Armenia and Russia is viewed as a vital pillar of regional stability.
“We are interested in strengthening centuries-old traditions of friendship. This serves the interests of our peoples and states, and contributes significantly to building a peaceful and prosperous South Caucasus,” Matvienko said, as quoted by TASS.
Addressing Armenia’s upcoming parliamentary elections, she noted that Russian lawmakers are ready to serve as observers “if invited by the Armenian side.”
“Elections are a major political event in any country’s life. Campaigns are often intense and spark debate. We want Armenia to be prosperous, developed, and politically stable, because we deeply value our ties with the Armenian people and have always appreciated them,” she added.
Matvienko also said that Simonyan’s visit to Moscow reflects the continuation of high-level dialogue and noted that the frequency of bilateral interactions has visibly increased in 2025.
Simonyan, in turn, stressed that the Armenian parliament is committed to deepening dialogue and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with Russia over the long term. He said that Armenian-Russian dialogue gained momentum in 2025, with ongoing communication between the two countries’ leaders.
Parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled for June 2026.
