Former goalkeeper explains national team departure

Former Armenian national team goalkeeper and ex-goalkeeping coach Roman Berezovsky has explained the reasons behind his departure from the coaching staff of the Armenian national football team.

“After being appointed head coach of the national team, Yegishe Melikyan called me and said he already had a coaching staff he was satisfied with. He mentioned that he had been working with that team for a long time,” Berezovsky said in comments to Factor.am.

Asked whether he would accept an offer to rejoin the coaching staff now, Berezovsky replied cautiously: “The national team already has a goalkeeping coach, and it wouldn’t be appropriate to speak about that.”

Berezovsky, 51, retired from professional football in 2016. He began serving as the national team's goalkeeping coach in 2020 and stepped down from the role in September 2025.

As a coach, Berezovsky has worked with Moscow's Dynamo and Yerevan's Noah as a goalkeeping coach. He has also managed Sochi in Russia and Pyunik Yerevan.
