Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated in an interview with Public Television that he discussed the issue of Armenian prisoners held in Baku during his meeting with U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance.
"Please don’t expect many details on this issue, but it was on the agenda and was discussed. I would like to add that there is virtually no relevant negotiation, direct or indirect, where we do not bring up this matter. There simply isn’t," Pashinyan said.
"I say relevant because there may be formats where there’s no connection whatsoever, but we have repeatedly raised the issue and will continue to push for a resolution," he added.
When asked about the contradiction between calls for peace and the sentencing of Armenians to life imprisonment in Baku, Pashinyan said those verdicts “were personally painful and difficult, but it is unrealistic to end the conflict through a single tool.”
He emphasized that the path to resolution lies through peace, noting that Vagif Khachatryan would not be in Armenia today if peace had not been achieved.
Before departing for Baku, the U.S. vice president had said he would raise the issue of Armenian prisoners during meetings in Azerbaijan.
