Pashinyan pledges no agenda to harm Russia’s interests

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, speaking on Public Television, stated that Armenia has never had and will never have any agenda to harm Russia’s interests.

“We’ve made it clear to all our partners: damaging Russia’s interests has never been, is not, and will not be on our agenda. It’s ruled out. No one can drag us into acting against Russia, and no such attempts have been made so far,” he said, emphasizing Armenia’s appreciation for its ties with Russia.

Pashinyan also highlighted the importance of personal connections: “I have very direct and warm relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. This is part of our strategy: we will never act against Russia.”

At the same time, he acknowledged that certain issues may arise in specific situations, as “our actions always prioritize Armenia’s interests.”

Referring to the August 8 document signed in the U.S., Pashinyan said it was based on proposals previously submitted to Russia: “TRIPP didn’t exist, of course, but we only asked for five words — territorial integrity, sovereignty, jurisdiction, inviolability of borders. We said: put these five words into the document, and I’ll sign it at any moment,” he added, stressing again that Armenia will not engage in conflict with Russia.

On August 8, at the White House, a trilateral meeting was held between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, during which a joint declaration was signed.

During the event, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov initialed an agreement on the establishment of peace and interstate relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, in the presence of their respective leaders and the U.S. president.
