The National Assembly of Armenia has passed in its second and final reading a bill amending the Law “On Military Service and the Status of Servicemen,” introduced by MP Hayk Sargsyan.
According to Factor.am , the bill allows Armenian citizens aged 27 to 37 who have not served in the military and live abroad to avoid criminal liability if they voluntarily return to Armenia and choose one of five proposed options:
- Serve in the armed forces for 24 months
- Serve for 12 months and pay 2.5 million AMD to the state budget
- Serve for 6 months and pay 5 million AMD
- Serve for 1 month and pay 10 million AMD
- Pay 15 million AMD instead of serving
