Six individuals have been arrested in connection with violations reported during the local self-government elections in the consolidated community of Vagharshapat. According to the Investigative Committee, a motion will be filed to apply pretrial detention.
During the preliminary investigation of a criminal case handled by the Armavir Regional Investigative Department, evidence was obtained indicating that on November 16, 2025, during the elections in Vagharshapat, S.D. and N.O., members of the "Victory" political alliance, along with supporters A.A. and M.M., allegedly acted in prior agreement as a group to direct multiple eligible voters to cast their ballots in favor of the alliance, thereby obstructing the free exercise of voting rights.
In total, public criminal prosecution has been initiated against seven individuals under Article 210, Part 2, Clause 6 of Armenia’s Criminal Code, which relates to obstructing electoral rights or the functions of election commissions or participants through group actions.
"Six individuals have been detained, and a court motion will be submitted to request pretrial detention. Searches were conducted at their residences and adjacent properties, resulting in the discovery of documents relevant to the case," the Investigative Committee stated.
Earlier, Sevak Khachatryan, leader of the opposition “Victory” alliance in the Vagharshapat Council, stated in an urgent press conference that more than 10 individuals had already been detained as a result of law enforcement operations that began early in the day.
