Gor Hambardzumyan, brother of former Masis mayor Davit Hambardzumyan, has been detained, and public criminal prosecution has been initiated against him under several articles, Armenpress reported.
The Investigative Committee said in a statement: “During the preliminary investigation of the criminal proceedings, public criminal prosecution was initiated against G.H. under Part 1 of Article 204 of the Criminal Code (violation of the privacy of personal or family life), Part 2 of Article 457 (forgery of documents, stamps, seals, forms, or production, use or circulation of forged documents, stamps, seals and forms), Point 3 of Part 3 of Article 255 (fraud on an especially large scale), and Point 3 of Part 3 of Article 296 (money laundering on an especially large scale). The latter has been detained.”
Lawyer Gayane Papoyan wrote on her Facebook page that the charges brought against Gor Hambardzumyan are “fabricated and clearly unfounded.”
“Immediately after today’s court hearing of Davit Hambardzumyan, his brother, Gor Hambardzumyan, was detained.
The charges brought are fabricated and clearly groundless, bearing no relation to reality. This is not justice; this is political retribution.
The ‘detention’ of Davit Hambardzumyan’s brother immediately after his hearing is not merely a suspicious coincidence but an act with an explicit political connection. Arresting people on invented charges has become a tool of the authorities to pressure, intimidate and silence those who dare to position themselves against the system.
When the law becomes an instrument of political revenge, the state ceases to be governed by the rule of law and turns into a repressive mechanism.
This is not a legal process but political persecution aimed at striking at Davit through his family.
It is obvious that this is linked not to the ‘law,’ but to political vengeance,” the post said.
