The preventive measure imposed on Mkrtich Bishop Proshyan, leader of the Aragatsotn Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, has been changed. His attorney, Ara Zohrabyan, announced the decision on his Facebook page.
“Today, the Court of First Instance of Aragatsotn Province (Judge D. Dabagyan) decided to revoke the detention of Mkrtich Bishop Proshyan, leader of the Aragatsotn Diocese, and to apply house arrest as an alternative measure,” Zohrabyan said.
Mkrtich Bishop Proshyan has been charged with obstructing the exercise of electoral rights through abuse of official position, as well as with preventing or coercing participation in a public assembly. He is a nephew of Catholicos Garegin II.
