Pashinyan tops Civil Contract list

According to the results of intra-party elections that lasted nearly three days, the 274-member electoral list of the ruling Civil Contract party is headed by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who received the highest number of votes.

A total of 1,028 party members took part in the vote held last weekend. Of the 932 ballots deemed valid, 894 were cast in favor of Pashinyan. Thus, out of roughly one thousand participants, 38 did not vote for him, RFE/RL reports.

Civil Contract parliamentary faction secretary Artur Hovhannisyan said during briefings in parliament that the political force is democratic, and it is natural that some members did not support Pashinyan.

He also noted that after the first round, another vote is planned in about a month. The 50 candidates who received the highest number of votes will be ranked again, and at that stage the issue of Civil Contract’s candidate for prime minister will be decided.

Parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled for June 7, 2026.
