Mirzoyan, Cassis welcome embassy move to Bern

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation Ignazio Cassis welcomed the Armenian government’s decision to open a resident embassy in Bern during a meeting in Geneva.

They stressed that the move would serve as a new impetus for closer bilateral cooperation.

Earlier, it was reported that Armenia will relocate its embassy in the Swiss Confederation from Geneva to the capital, Bern. An additional 196 million drams are earmarked for the move under the 2026 state budget.

The sides also discussed cooperation within the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe framework, including during Switzerland’s chairmanship. They touched upon mutually beneficial engagement in other formats, as well as upcoming high-level events, including the European Political Community meeting scheduled to be held in Yerevan.

The foreign ministers of Armenia and Switzerland exchanged views on regional developments. They emphasized the importance of peace established between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the consistent implementation of steps aimed at strengthening it. Humanitarian issues were also discussed, including programs addressing the needs of refugees displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh.

Armenia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva will continue its activities.
