Pensions in Armenia will increase starting April 1, excluding cashback payments from non-cash transactions, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during a Facebook livestream.
“From April 1, pensions will increase. Under the decision, relatively lower pensions will rise by 10,000 drams, while relatively higher pensions will increase by a smaller amount. These calculations do not include cashback received from non-cash trade. Cashback is already calculated separately, and we have spoken about it many times,” he said.
He justified the move by pointing to higher-than-forecast economic growth in Armenia in 2025.
“Growth has also exceeded projections by international organizations. This creates additional opportunities for us, and citizens of Armenia must see the results of that growth in their lives,” the prime minister said.
Meanwhile, about two months earlier, Pashinyan had stated that even if pensions were raised, pensioners would not know how to spend the money effectively.
“If we increase pensioners’ pensions by 11,000 drams or by 10,400 drams per month, what will a pensioner do? What will they do with that money, what will they spend it on?” he had said.
