Armenia abstains from UN Ukraine resolution

Armenia abstained from voting on the United Nations General Assembly resolution titled “Support for a lasting peace in Ukraine.”

The resolution calls for an immediate ceasefire and reaffirms the need to respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Radar Armenia reports.

A total of 107 countries voted in favor of the resolution, while 12 voted against it. Fifty-one states, including Armenia, abstained.

“We thank all 107 member states that supported this clear message. We will act decisively and consistently to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting peace,” said Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

“We truly had a historic vote in the UN General Assembly on the ‘Support for a lasting peace in Ukraine’ resolution that we had introduced,” noted Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Andrii Melnyk.

Countries voting against the resolution included Russia, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cuba, North Korea, Eritrea, Iran, Mali, Nicaragua, Niger and Sudan.
