It is unclear to Armenia’s government why the Georgian side is not allowing Armenian truck drivers to continue their route after crossing into Georgia from Russia, Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan said, according to Factor.am .
He noted that Georgia’s financial police reportedly see certain issues with some goods transported by Armenian drivers.
“It is also unclear to us. You know that a few days ago Georgia’s economy minister was in Armenia. He said this is not related to his ministry, but to the Georgian financial police, which is subordinate to Georgia’s Ministry of Finance. According to the Georgian side, the financial police see certain problems with some goods. I have asked for clarification as to what risks are being referred to. I must say that so far we have not received a response as to what our drivers have done,” the minister said.
For about a week, Armenian drivers engaged in cargo transportation through Georgia have been reporting that after entering Georgia from Russia, their movement has been obstructed by Georgian border guards for unclear reasons. Those importing construction materials have mainly been prevented from continuing their route.
Drivers, speaking on condition of anonymity, have claimed that they were asked for bribes by the Georgian side.
