The preventive measure of detention applied to Vahagn Chakhalyan, a supporter of the Sacred Struggle movement, has been replaced with house arrest. Judge Karen Farkhoyan stated that applying bail would not be realistic.
“The grounds for a preventive measure have diminished, but not to such an extent that a measure unrelated to deprivation of liberty could be applied. The court finds that from March 4 the detention should be replaced with house arrest for a period of three months,” he said, Panorama.am reports.
At the address specified by the court, Chakhalyan will not be allowed to receive visitors, except for close relatives, family members and his lawyers.
Monitoring during the period of house arrest will be carried out through electronic means.
The judge noted that the parties may appeal the decision to the Court of Appeal if they disagree with it.
Chakhalyan had been detained on July 5, 2025. According to the Investigative Committee, participants and leaders of the Sacred Struggle movement had planned to carry out terrorist acts and actions aimed at seizing power in Armenia.
